Weekend Challenge | September 2011

It’s the first weekend of September (Did I just say that?), so that means it’s time for another weekend challenge!

I have had the craziest week (two interviews earlier this week, another one today and several house showings) and I’m not seeing a restful, relaxing weekend ahead. I really needed to give myself a do-able challenge this month, something that I can easily accomplish. Challenges don’t always have to be the kind that stretch you, they just have to be something that gets you to create.

This month, I’ve decided to follow along with a new series Shimelle started on her blog called Starting Points. She offers up a page design as a starting point and you copy it or take inspiration from in and take it in whatever direction works for you.

Page design has always been a weakness for me. If I’m not following a sketch or scraplifting a layout, I can push paper around on a 12×12 sheet of cardstock for hours and never go anywhere. I learned long ago that for me to be productive, I need a place to start. I loved both of the designs that Shimelle has posted so far here and here, so I’m going to take her starting points and create some layouts quickly and easily.

I can’t wait to pick out some photos and papers and get down to the business of creating. I’ll be revealing my results next week! I sure have missed my creative time this week. I guess it’s a taste of what’s to come if I’m lucky enough to land one of these positions and start working full time again. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

  1. I noticed that series on Shimelle’s blog too. Will be fun to see what you create. I’m also searching for a job and I find interviews very stressful. I hope you’re able to find a bit of relaxation. And I hope you get the job you want!

  5. Great choice for a challenge Tammy! I’ve seen both of Shimelle’s posts but haven’t tried one yet. There’s just so much inspiration everywhere and then I’ve been taking so many classes, I just can’t keep up1 I do have to eat and sleep and clean house occasionally after all. LOL

  6. This challenge is great because you don’t have to do the intial legwork of designing, just fine tune it with your embellishments.

I think I’m going to try that Basic Grey Wander Starting Point since I have that in my stash.
And I was looking for a few more challenges.
Just printed a copy up 🙂
Good luck with the job search!

  8. I agree! Page design can be a real issue. I don’t get all of my ideas from other layouts I’ve seen before, but I don’t really see a problem with gleaning inspiration from something that’s been done. From how I look at it, there are few things in this world that truly have never been done, and it’s always fine to build on history 🙂
