SNAKE! | A Scrapbook Layout

Just a quick layout to share today.

It was not really my intent to make a happy layout here. What I needed to do was put some papers and embellishments from a few Cocoa Daisy kits to good use.

I snapped these photos of a snake in the bushes outside my condo. I live in Florida and the critters are just a reality. Lizards, roaches, and yes, snakes. I don’t mind the lizards but for the others, while I know they are there, I am perfectly happy if I never, ever see them. One day, I rounded the corner with a load of groceries, spied the creature and all I could think was: SNAKE!!!!!!  While it creeped me out, I still grabbed the camera. As my Dad would say, it’s a good garden snake and you want them in your yard to eat up other critters. Awesome.

(I am not convinced.)

With all the green in the background, I ended up going with a contrasting color for the background. Fuzzy Sweater from Chic Tags came in my October Cocoa Daisy kit and it was perfect.  I’ve also been keeping all the kit embellishments on a tray in my workspace and find myself using them more when I can easily pull them over to whatever layout I am working on.

The wood veneer frame came in one of my kits, as did the twine I used to wrap around it. I created a few spots for embellishment with some strips of washi tape and flowers from my stash. I also had a new pack of sequins from Lawn Fawn’s Into the Woods collection and since the colors coordinated so well, I couldn’t resist adding them.

Instead of a scary and creepy snake page, I think I ended up with more of a happy, sunny garden page. Not exactly what I was aiming for, but I needed to get these supplies on a page to make room for my November kit. This wasn’t my favorite story to document, but it shows the realities of where I live and since the photos turned out so well, they deserved a page.

Do you grab your camera to document the wild life in your garden? Tell me I’m not the only one!

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Yikes is right! I’m not a snake lover either, but they are good to have in the garden. Love how you scrapped these, adding in the pretty flowers and sequins!

  2. eeeew – snakes are totally creepy!!! i so love that you grabbed your camera – that is a sign of a devoted scrapper! Your layout turned out great and I love your choice of colors 🙂

  3. This did turn out to be a very happy page! We have a family of rabbits in our neighborhood & I’m pretty sure they live under out shed. We often snap photos of them in the yard & my nieces love to put out carrots & greens for them to eat.

I use more of my embellishments when they are easy to get to, too.

  4. ooh I saw a snake like that when we were on holiday in Florida but I wasn’t quick enough with my camera! Great page even though it is ‘prettier’ than you planned!

  5. lol
    Great layout!

  6. Ahhh! It did make a great layout though!!

  7. yikes is right!!! LOL!! cute layotu

  8. Awesome embellishing on your page!
I love the little pops of color with the washi tape 🙂
I do like to take nature pics and scrapbook them.
I think I have done a few pages on those photos.

And thanks so much for the goodie package from my win!
It arrived the other day and I have a little thank you card I will be sending 🙂

  9. Pretty stuff on your page – although I didn’t take a good look at the photos — ewww!!

  10. I really like the brighter effect. I can tolerate snakes (we live in Singapore so we have cobras and pythons mainly) but I don’t like to be surprised by them.

  11. love the wood veneer with the Yikes! and yikes is right…I hate snakes!

  12. Snakes, yuck! Thankfully they are pretty harmless around here. We are always snapping the wild life in our back yard, but that’s mostly birds, ducks and chipmunks. Great page, love the background paper and the embellishments.

  13. This is awesome!! I love the “yikes” and the sequins!! I don’t know if I’ve ever taken a pic of wildlife, but I do take pics of flowers and things!

  14. Yikes! I didn’t see the snake until I read the title then had to go back. That is scary!!!
