Quick Tip | Storage Boxes

OK — can you stand just one more storage tip from me???? It’s going to be the last one for awhile. My organizing spree has hit a wall and I need to get back to creating again. But this one is cool and I really wanted to share it.

I found these boxes at Walmart, in the school supply section. They are stocking a bunch of new home office/dorm type organizing items. These boxes come in a variety of great colors and two different sizes. This one is 10.5 x 12 and there was another one that was labeled as a CD storage case so it’s not as wide, but probably twice as tall. They are selling for $7 each here in my area — more than I would typically spend on a box this size, but because of the quality, versatility and alterable factor, they are worth it.

When I opened the lid and saw the dividers, I instantly saw all kinds of possibilities. I always need some place to put odds and ends after I take things out of the original packaging. For this one, I decided to store journaling spots, using the divider.

The divider does come out if you don’t want to use it. The CD box also had a four-part divider. I love how these look on the shelf in my craft room. I usually prefer clear storage or open storage, but because of that divider and ability to separate things, this closed option works for me too. Love that it has a label holder on the end so I can label what’s inside.

Other ideas I’m thinking about are using them for distress inks, stickles (the box is tall enough you can store the bottles standing up), random embellishments like American Crafts brads that are still in the packaging, chipboard shapes, flowers… I could go on and on!

I’m pretty sure I’ll pick up at least one more box. I think this spot is begging for a third box.

Today I’m working on some new layouts! It also, just so happens to be my birthday, so I’m working on a layout that I will share on Friday about that. I’ve never been one to have anxiety over birthdays…once upon a time my motto was “The older I get, the better I get!” But now that 40 is just a few short years away, I’m not quite as eager to welcome another birthday, so I’ll be creating today and keeping myself distracted.

What’s on your agenda for today?

  1. I think that storage container is perfect..and you’re right, your space is just screaming for that 3rd box!! I could use one for my inks/stickles, I might have to check that out soon. Happy Birthday!! Don’t fret getting older, I just turned 40 and it was fine……plus, it beats the alternative!! Have a great day and eat lots of cake!! ;D

    • Thank you! I’m not fretting. Well, not much. LOL. I just spent too much time in my late twenties and early thirties working and wasn’t looking for my own Mr. Right. I love being single, but the biological clock is ticking louder and it’s getting harder to ignore. So I try not to fret. Much. 🙂

  8. Happy birthday!!!! I love those boxes, I have some similar ones from walmart in my room and love how sturdy they are. Btw, I bought a cute container over the weekend to keep my new goodies and I just have to thank you for that idea. When I was crafting the other day, I used several of the items out of that container because it was sitting right there and I could see them!!! Thanks again for all the great tips Tammy!

  10. Happy Birthday! I hope your day is filled with fun & laughter! My advice is not to worry about the number 40 coming up, just start planning how you are going to celebrate that day in a few years so that it will always be a wonderful memory. I was fortunate enough to travel to London and spend a wonderful day with my dear hubby – theatre production, fancy lunch, walk through London, picnic in the Queen’s Garden in Regent’s Park. Now my memory of turning forty is so wonderful that I can hardly wait to see what 50 will bring – quite a few years away still! :>)

    • That is great advice. I love that story. Never had the anxiety before but suddenly I realize all the things I still want to do….like find a husband, have some kids, create my own family….and I just pray that I didn’t wait too long. It will all work out exactly like it should, I have faith that it will. But I may fret just a bit, too. 🙂
