Rite Of Passage | A Scrapbook Layout

February is just not my month. I’ve had a bunch of things going on and just haven’t been able to get my finished projects photographed and blogged. So I’m here for an unusual weekend post, but that gives me the chance to catch up with all my blogging friends this weekend and I’ll be better prepared for next week. (Hopefully.)

Just a quick layout to share today. Both of my nephews already have braces on their teeth. I guess kids get them younger and younger these days? They really don’t mind them and think it’s cool that they get to change up the bracket colors every time they go in.

Layout from Your Memory Connection: Rite of Passage

I used Little Yellow Bicycle’s Generation Z line for this page. It’s an older collection, but my nephews are just now getting to the age where this line works well for them, so I’m glad I hoarded some of it. I took inspiration from Kyle’s sweatshirt and went with a pretty busy background.

Because the photos are mostly of his face, without distracting elements, I thought these photos could stand up well to a busy background. I cut a few tags from one of the pattern papers to give me a place for my title. I also added a couple of K’s to the page because I didn’t have any other embellishments that worked. A letter is always a good embellishment, right?

Any plans for the weekend? It’s going to be chilly in Florida. Our temps are going to be in the 30’s overnight the next few nights. I know that is not cold for most of the country — having lived in Nashville for five years, where the 30’s are the highs most of the winter — I get it.  But by Florida standards it’s a big deal (and Floridians sure like to complain about it). I personally enjoy it and will just put on one of my many sweaters!

Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Great layout.
I got braces later in life…like in my middle 30’s. Wish I would have taken my dad’s advice as a teen to get them….I wouldn’t have had to pay for them then, lol.
A few days last week we were having your temps….which is gorgeous here, for this time of year.
But we are at about -20C/-2F…and there are a few men out in shorts….Crazy Canadians….I would rather be in your part of the world 🙂

  7. You know, I’ve been having a rough time posting this YEAR! Haha! I know what you mean about kids getting braces earlier, at Abie’s last dentist appointment they gave us a referral to the orthodontist! Awesome layout, I love the bold black and gray pattern!!

  8. Of course a letter is always a good embellishment. I’ve finished my Pre-Printed Patterned Papers challenge this weekend and started working through Shimelle’s Something From Almost Nothing class while answering questions on the Finding Photo Freedom message boards and preparing some blog posts for my blog & the FPF classroom blog . . . oh, and a little housework & lesson prep & grading thrown in! :>)

  9. That’s a great series of photos and you’ve showcased them perfectly with your product choices and design. Braces have come a long ways from when I had to wear them!
