Has anyone see the new stitch attachments for the Sew Easy? I recently purchased two of the newest stitches for my Sew Easy tool. (If you missed my original Sew Easy review, find it here.)
The newest attachment heads have a wider base than the original group of stitches. They are all what I would call “novelty” stitches, like hearts, pennants and flowers. The surface area covered by these stitch designs is much wider than with the original stitches.
I took a few practice runs to make sure I got a handle on how each design rolled out. They were both very smooth and I think that the wider base actually provided a bit more stability than the original set.
However, my results were mixed. Here’s how they stack up:
Loop de Loop
Loop de Loop is fabulous! I can safely say that this one is my very favorite stitch ever. I love how large the loops are. This stitch is not just a finishing touch for your layout, this one is bold enough to be part of the design.
I already have some other ideas swirling for using this as the background or foundation of a layout.
I had a harder time with this Vine stitch. This stitch is not as intuitive as I have found the others to be. I am a cross stitcher from way back and I know how to do a variety of stitches. I actually had to follow the instructions on the back of the package to do this loop stitch because it just wasn’t working for me.
I was using DMC embroidery thread with 3 strands, but as you can see, the strands easily separated. I decided to abandon that idea and use some crochet thread instead. The crochet thread is a single strand and it’s thicker, so I also had to switch to a larger needle.
I am definitely happier with my second try, but I’m still not crazy about how the stitches turned out. I found that it took me several tries to get the tension right. The loop needs to be pulled to a certain point before pulling that stitch at the end of the leaf through.
What I can say is that these absolutely look like they were hand stitched. Maybe in the end, that’s all that matters. Because I am a cross stitcher, I prefer that my stitches look more polished. I wasn’t able to achieve that here. If anyone out there has this stitch and has figured out how to master these vines, please share your secrets!
Has anyone else out there tried out any of these new stitches?
